About the speed calculation of geared stepper motor

Principle.

The speed of a stepper motor is controlled with a driver, and the signal generator in the controller generates a pulse signal. By controlling the frequency of the pulse signal sent, when the motor moves one step after receiving a pulse signal (we only consider the whole step drive), the speed of the motor can be controlled.

The speed of a stepper motor is determined by the frequency of the driver, the step angle of the stepper motor and the gearbox.

Frequency: the number of pulses that the signal generator can generate per second

Unit of frequency: PPS

Number of pulses Per second

Example: If the frequency is 1000 PPS, it means that the motor takes 1000 steps per second.

Speed of stepper motor.

The concept of rotational speed: rotational speed is the number of revolutions the motor makes in a unit of time.

The unit of rotational speed: RPS (revolutions per second)

Number of revolutions Per second

The unit of rotational speed: RPM (revolutions per minute)

Number of revolutions per minute

Which RPM is what we usually say "rotation", 1000 revolutions means 1000 revolutions per minute.

1RPS=60RPM

Step angle: the angle of rotation of the motor for each full step.

The angle of one turn is 360 °

For example: the step angle of our most commonly used stepper motor is 18°, which means that the number of steps required for the motor to go one revolution is

360° / 20 = 18°

Example: If the frequency is 1000 PPS, and the step angle is 18°, then

Means the motor turns 1000/20=50 RPS revolutions per second

RPM per minute = 50 RPS * 60 = 3000 RPM per minute, which is what we call "3000 RPM"

In the case of a gearbox: output speed = motor speed/gearbox reduction ratio

Example: If the frequency is 1000 PPS, the step angle is 18°, and a 100:1 gearbox is added.

Motor speed above can be derived from: 50 RPS = 3000 RPM

If a 100:1 gearbox is added, then the RPS (revolutions per second) is

50RPS/100=0.5RPS, 0.5 revolutions per second

Then RPM (revolutions per minute).

0.5RPS*60 = 30 RPM 30 revolutions per minute

The relationship between RPM and frequency.

s=f*A*60/360° [s: Rotational speed (unit: RPM); f: Frequency (unit: PPS); A: Step angle (unit: °)]

RPS=RPM/60 [RPS: revolutions per second; RPM: revolutions per minute]
