1 What is a NEMA stepper motor?

Stepping motor is a kind of digital control motor, which is widely used in various automatic equipment. The NEMA stepping motor is a stepping motor designed by combining the advantages of the permanent magnet type and the reactive type. Its structure is the same as that of the reactive stepping motor. The rotor is divided into two sections in the axial direction. The two sections of iron core are evenly distributed with the same number and size of small teeth in the circumferential direction, but they are staggered by half a tooth pitch.

2 Working principle of NEMA stepping motor

The structure of NEMA stepping motor is the same as that of reluctance motor, which also consists of stator and rotor. The common stator has 8 poles or 4 poles. A certain number of small teeth are uniformly distributed on the pole surface. The coil on the pole can be energized in two directions to form phase a and phase a, and phase b and phase b.

All teeth on the same section of rotor blades have the same polarity, while the polarity of two rotor blades in different sections is opposite. The biggest difference between NEMA stepping motor and reactive stepping motor is that when the magnetized permanent magnetic material is demagnetized, there will be oscillation points and out of step areas.

3 Advantages of NEMA stepping motor

The rotor of NEMA stepping motor is magnetic, so the torque generated under the same stator current is greater than that of reactive stepping motor, and the step angle is usually small. At the same time, with the increase of the number of phases (number of energized windings), the step angle of NEMA stepping motor decreases and the accuracy is improved. This kind of stepping motor is most widely used.

Advantages of NEMA stepping motor:

1. When the number of pole pairs is equal to the number of rotor teeth, its change can be adjusted as required;

2. The winding inductance changes little with the rotor position, which makes it easy to achieve optimal operation control;

3. When new permanent magnetic materials with high magnetic energy product are used in the axial magnetizing magnetic circuit, the performance of the motor can be improved;

4. The rotor can provide excitation for the magnetic steel.
